This is an old recipe that I haven’t done in ages. This time I swapped the all purpose flour with whole wheat flour to make this healthier and lighter.

The filling can be changed with anything you’d like: turkey, roast beef, cheese, etc. A pancake with a side of salad might be just the perfect meal.

The perfect weekend menu – a balance of healthy and indulgence

Everything in life requires balance. Eating well is necessary so we can function and feel well and lead productive days, without feeling overtired or any other symptom of a sedentary life.

We have to agree that life would be boring if we didn’t indulge and treat ourselves to a nice meal.

I’ve put together a daily menu where you can find a little bit of both. The weekend just started so you still have time to get the ball rolling. 

I will offer you the option to indulge or eat healthy for breakfast, lunch and dinner but I would pick one meal to go all out. Just a suggestion…if you feel you deserve more, by all means, enjoy it!

Three years ago I decided to change my life and be healthier.

I joined the gym, hired a personal trainer and slowly started changing my eating habits.

Since then I feel like a total different person, lighter and happier. Turns out that we really are what we eat.

One of the big issues with eating salads in restaurants is that they sound like a healthier option but the truth is that they are high in calories because of the dressing and ingredients that come with the mixed greens.

In the last 4 months I haven’t eaten out at all, I have eaten my homemade meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It resulted in a more significant weight loss and a lot of savings for us.

I like to make this salad dressing because it’s simple, tasty and light (mustard has no calories!).

Eating healthy requires planning and effort, it’s crazy how easy it is to pick something full of fat and sugar when we find ourselves hungry. I plan my meals, specially because I started a path over 3 years ago to lose weight and be healthier.

I had a lot of weight to lose and in these last 3 years I have learned quite a bit about myself and how to make good eating decisions. It’s about figuring out before hand what I’ll be eating, being active and going through a daily internal battle to fight hunger and temptation. There’s also the social alienation that comes with such a change in lifestyle.

Following a strict diet doesn’t conform with other people’s expectations and plans which means that they will push you to “cheat just this once” or they will tell you “you look fine” and so on. Sometimes you will even lie to yourself and convince yourself that you had a terrible day and you deserve a treat.

Drinking Caipirinha to celebrate summer

I was raised in Sao Paulo, a city with high temperatures and beautiful beaches only a few hours away. My vacations and long weekends were spent under the sun and by the water. Brazilians love to spend all day at the beach, eating and drinking, enjoying life to the fullest.

Many people know that “Caipirinha” is our national drink.

Caipirinha is an alcoholic drink made of sugar, lime and Cachaça (distilled drink made of sugarcane juice). We love to drink it on a hot day but be aware that its sweetness can be dangerous, you may find yourself drunk and not be quite sure how it happened so quickly.
